recent gifts
Liz recently chose
http://www.ttof.org/index.html
for orphans left behind by 9/11, but also was wanting to give to
http://www.nothingbutnets.net
an equally awesome concept.
For Jerrod's turn, we will be attempting to adopt a goat (if we can get around the whole "send us a check" issue. More news later on its name and hopefully a picture as well.
be great

Jerrod- Grin Kids
Nice pick Jerrod. Thanks for playing...and by playing I mean sacrificing hard earned money that could otherwise be spent on Tequilla, to drink by the pool, instead of running 6 miles. Seriously though...thank you everyone.

New Donations
Liz, one of our newest members chose an organization called Back on my Feet, aiding homeless people by building their self-esteem through running.
http://www.backonmyfeet.org/
Alan, in the other cell, chose to give money to Levines Children's Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network. I have personally been there, and the place seems very friendly and even though kids in hospitals is not a good thing, it appears as though this place is the most kid friendly you can get. Picture a McDonald's playground where you can get medical attention.
If you think you might want to be involved, but cant afford $38 every two weeks, I am creating starter cells for only $10 every two weeks. Let me know if this sounds more doable to you.
thanks for readin'.

Kiva.org update

I just leant out the money we had sitting in our Kiva.org account and I came across these stats for us. It makes me excited to know that in this case we arent just giving money to a cuase, but these people are getting the tools they need to advance in life.
Feel free to look on our account (will.dalen@gmail.com, pw: gengroup3) to learn more about who has recieved loans from us and how they are doing.--DAlen

Membership has increased
I havent written on here in quite some time...so, allow me to update everyone.
We now have two cells....
Cell UNO
-Justin Van Atta
-Alan Dellinger
and
Cell J&D
-Brianne Connelly
-Liz JanesxkzscoCo.
-Jerrod Kraftchick
-Will Dalen Rice
...and we are looking to expand even further. Remember, the goal is 4 people in a cell. So, if your cell is not full, recruit. If your cell is full, recruit and start your own new cell.
If people cant commit to the full price ($38/ two weeks...10% of my AmeriCorps stipend salary from Habitat) but they really want to participate, let me know and we can maybe negotiate some intially lesser value until people get used to it.
Have a great day and as always...thanks for giving.

Been a long time...but still doing good.
This year, 2008, will be our first FULL year of giving. So far, Cell UNO has given to 7 different non-profits (including The Urban Justice Center, St Judes Hospital, Amer. Cancer Soc.) for a total of over 700 dollars! Thats a significant amount of money going to organization that are changing the world! This excites me greately.
On the bad news side of things, we had a member leave our midsts due to high taxes and low income. So, the Cell is no longer complete...but hopefully will be again soon.
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE and thanks again for giving!

Cell UNO is complete!
We finally did it. The first Cell in a long line has come to completion. For now, it is called Cell UNO. We made our first official donation yesterday at a whopping 152 dollars! Thats awesome! It went to an organization fighting Child Diabetes. It was Alan's first donation (YAY! ALAN!) and he chose diabetes.
All mighty institutions have acronyms. Here are a few I have come up with:
DC- Donor Chooser...as in, if its your first time, you have to be the DC.
DCO- Donor Chosen Organization...since Alan was the DC, he had control over the DCO, but he didnt choose the NAACP
MC- my cell, a cell you founded...its hard to beleive that in only 2 years we have both racked up over 30 MCs and now we are giving enough money every cycle to feed 100s of people.
The guidelines of the Genesis Group arent set in stone of course, but for now the current ruling is that you must be active in your initial cell for at least 2 cycles (4 months) before you can leave the cell and create a new one. Also, your cell must be completed before you leave. Cells will consist of no more than 4 people, and once a year (the cycle before the end of the year) any cells that you founded will donate to your DCO. It doesnt matter whether or not you are still active in that cell (you may have left to start new ones). The 2 cycle limit also means that you will have been the DC 3 times (your first time, 8 weeks later, and then 8 weeks later). If you get 5 MCs I'll buy you a steak dinner.
Soon, we will be giving more than the United Way! More importantly though, we are conscious of it and we are aware.

First Official Donation
The Genesis Group has made its first official donation using the Paypal account! The organization is a group called The Surfrider Foundation. Their main goal is to preserve our nation's beaches, mainly using the people who seem to care about them the most...surfers. Please checkout their website as they are quite a large presence on our coast lines and any progress to reverse man's negative effects are probably a direct result of their work.Thursday, May 17, 2007
The Genesis Group is a donation pool, that bi-monthly makes a contribution to a non-proft organization. All money is raised in increments of 10% of the salary recieved by its founder at the time of founding. These $38 donations go into a pool, so that together, our dollars can make more of a difference. Members make these donations on a regular basis, not just giving once or twice, but consciously giving over the long run. For more info, leave a comment with your email adress.
